Civil marriages

We hold all the civil marriage records for Oxfordshire from 1 July 1837 at the Oxford register office (if the marriage took place in a register office, approved venue or if a registrar was present at the wedding).

If the marriage was recently registered, the register may be held at the Oxford office or may still be with the Registrar who registered the marriage.

Marriages in church or place of worship

We hold records for registers which have been filled and left with us. You can apply to us for a certificate.

Some registers (including those dating back to 1837 from some of the smaller parishes) are still current and remain in the custody of the local church. If we do not hold the entry we will return the application.

How to order a certificate

Call 0345 2412489 to order a certificate.

Alternatively, you can download the Marriage certificate application form (pdf format, 41 KB) and pay the necessary fee. Cheques should be made payable to 'Oxfordshire County Council'.
