Funding for early years full and relevant training courses at levels 2 and 3

As from 1 April 2016 funding for Early Years training is no longer available

Sources of funding

Advanced Learner Loans

Overview

Advanced learner loans are available for individuals aged 19 or above to undertake approved qualifications at Levels 3 to Level 6, at an approved provider in England. Advanced learner loans give individuals access to financial support for tuition costs similar to that available in higher education and are administered by Student Finance England.

The availability of loans at Level 3 for 19 to 23 year olds does not replace an individual’s legal entitlement for full funding for a first full Level 3 qualification.

Advanced learner loans are paid directly to the college or training organisation on behalf of an individual.

You’ll have to pay your loan back when both the following apply:

  • you’ve finished your course
  • you earn more than £21,000 a year

Loan eligibility doesn’t depend on your income and there are no credit checks. You can get independent money advice from the Money Advice Service.

Bursary Fund

You may also be eligible for money from the Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund if you need help with some costs while studying e.g. childcare, travel or trips related to your course.

You need to apply to your college or training provider directly for the Bursary Fund. You can apply as soon as you’ve received a letter confirming your Advanced Learner Loan.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. Government Funding is available to either fully or partially fund your training:

In England:

  • 16-18 year olds – 100% funding
  • 19s and over – partial funding

For further details see the Government website on financial help or how to become an apprentice
