Early Years Foundation Stage | Oxfordshire County Council

Early Years Foundation Stage

All settings on the Ofsted Early Years Register must follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

School-managed childcare must also meet registration requirements.

You will need the following documents, dated 2014:

Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS progress check at age two - A Know How Guide (not relevant to out-of-school childcare providers)
Parents' Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage

You can find all these new documents on the Foundation Years website and the Department for Education website.

You can buy the first three documents listed above from PACEY

Ofsted factsheets

Out of school childcare and play settings should take note of the following Ofsted factsheets and guidance:

Regulating provision made before and after school or during school holidays shows how your setting can meet Ofsted requirements. It confirms that playworkers who provide play according to the Playwork Principles should not have to change their existing good practice to meet EYFS requirements.

Ofsted self-evaluation form

Ofsted encourages you to complete the SEF online.

You should have received a unique password from Ofsted called an Ofsted Security Token (OST) and the guidelines on how to complete the online form. If you have not received these, please contact Ofsted on 0300 123 1231, quoting your Ofsted Unique Reference Number.

Alternatively, you can complete the SEF by hand, and post it to Ofsted. The SEF and Guidance documents are on the Ofsted website.
