Oxfordshire housing survey 2017

Published 07 September 2017

Oxfordshire County Council, in partnership with two of the county’s district councils, are carrying out a short, census style survey of housing completed within the last 10 years. The survey asks questions about properties and the make-up of households.

Any information you give will be treated in the strictest of confidence and you will not be identified in any way in the results of the survey. The information collected will be used and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

We have commissioned a professional market research agency, Future Thinking, to manage this work on our behalf.

Why are you carrying out this survey?

Much of the funding needed to provide local infrastructure and services to accompany housing growth has to come from the developers building the properties. This is a planning obligation under Section 106 of the Town and County Planning Act 1990.

Oxfordshire County Council has to negotiate with developers to secure this funding and we need robust evidence to successfully present our case.

Are there any examples of how the previous survey data was used?

Yes. For example, the information from a previous survey was used to obtain funding for the following:

  • Cherwell – funding for a new Primary School on the Kingsmere Development, SW Bicester
  • Oxford – site and funds to deliver the proposed new Primary School at Barton Park
  • South – funding for a new Primary School (GEMS) at Great Western Park, Didcot
  • Vale – funding for the expansion of King Alfred’s Secondary School, Wantage
  • West – funding for new Early Years provision at Long Hanborough School

Why now?

The last survey was conducted in 2008 and therefore captured how housing was occupied before the recession. Recent evidence from other sources, including the school census, strongly suggests that the make-up of the population living in new housing is now very different, and so we need to update our evidence.

Will the information I provide be secure?

Yes, Future Thinking works in accordance with the Market Research Society Code of Conduct and follows the Data Protection Act 1998, which means your responses to the survey will be kept strictly confidential.

When does the survey run?

The survey runs from Monday 2 October with a closing date of Friday 1 December. You can complete the survey online
