Bid to improve A361 safety

Published 11 May 2017

The county council has applied to the government's Safer Roads Fund to undertake a major road safety improvement on the A361 between Chipping Norton and Banbury.

Over the last five years there have 66 injury accidents along this section of road including one death.

The proposed scheme aims to reduce the risk of future accidents by a combination of measures in the area including resurfacing, speed limit reductions, improved drainage and vegetation removal.

Site specific measures include junction improvements, improved delineation of bends and junctions, safety barriers and cycle facilities.

These improvements are predicted to reduce the number of fatal and serious injuries by almost two-thirds.

The government will decide in July 2017 whether it will fund the improvements.  If it goes ahead,  then work will begin in early 2018.
