Botley Interchange maintenance work to start mid-June

Published 08 June 2016

Work to resurface an important roundabout used by thousands of vehicles traveling to and from Oxford each day is to start in mid-June.

The work on the A34/A420 Botley Interchange will include resurfacing of the roundabout, drainage repairs, replacing road markings and traffic signal loops.

County Councillor David Nimmo Smith, Cabinet member for transport, said: “Areas of the carriageway at the A420 Botley interchange have started to fail.

“Early intervention now, and investing around £260,000, will help to maintain the existing road surface so that more disruptive and costly work isn’t needed in the near future.

“The work is being done at nights so that traffic is disrupted as little as possible. For many people all they will notice is the improved state of the roads as work progresses.”

Key dates

The work will be carried out in two phases. Phase one will include drainage repairs and replacement of gully covers and is scheduled to start on 15 June 2016 for three nights.

Roads will be open to traffic during the work with lanes closed as required.

Phase two will include carriageway resurfacing, road markings and installation of traffic signals loops, this work is programmed to start on 27 June 2016 and will take up to two weeks.

This work will done at night between 9.00pm and 6.00am Monday to Sunday and a road closure will be in place. Diversions will be in operation and will be signed – a map is available via the link below.

Buses

Any buses running while the work is done will follow the diversion route during the closures. No bus stops will be suspended during this work.
