Digital helper volunteer

Supporting customers and helping to them to access digital services and learn new skills

About the role

Digital Helper volunteers play a crucial role in supporting our customers with 1-1 help to allow them to develop their digital skills.  With the growing importance of digital services in all our lives, our Digital Helpers play a crucial role in helping to ensure that no-one in Oxfordshire is left behind and unable to access the information and opportunities they can find in the Digital World.  You will help customers by showing them how to find information online, setting up an email or social media account, or simply finding something fun to do or share.  This role is great for anyone who likes to help make a difference!

What we need from you

Our Digital Helper role requires someone who is patient and willing to commit to giving 1-1 support to others in one of our libraries.  Some IT knowledge is necessary; but you don’t need to be an expert!  Times of the sessions will vary but most 1-1 sessions normally last an hour.  What you will deliver in each session will vary depending on your customer, some may want help with one specific task, while other people may want to learn a series of skills.  What every volunteer will need is your enthusiasm and friendly encouragement to help them navigate the digital world.

We will ask for a reference when you apply for the role, and you will need to be at least 18 years old.

What you can expect from us

We value all our volunteers and our commitment to you is spelled out in our Library Volunteer Charter (pdf format, 92Kb).  We will be flexible and supportive and staff will be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries.  We will provide training for you before you start the role.
