Transfer to junior school

Details of transferring to a junior school

Parents of children born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 (inclusive) who attend an infant school, need to apply for their children’s transfer to a junior or primary school.

In addition, parents of children born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 (inclusive) who attend Year 2 at a primary school but want to apply for a transfer to a junior school (only) that does not have a current Year 2 class, need to apply for their children’s transfer.

Please note, parents of children born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 (inclusive) who attend a primary school and want to apply for a transfer to another primary school to start Year 3 in September 2017 cannot apply using this process. Such applications are classed as “in-year” applications. These cannot be submitted until 5 June 2017.

Important things to remember when applying

    • It is the responsibility of parents/carers to apply for a school place by the deadline of 15 January 2017
    • You can list three different schools in order of preference. We strongly advise you to use all three preferences
    • We advise you to enter your catchment (or designated) school as one of your preferences
    • Attending your catchment school does not entitle you to free home to school transport if it is not your closest school and / or under 3 miles away (for a child who will be over 8 years old during Year 3)
    • If your application is late, you are far less likely to get a place at one of your preferred schools.
