Special schools and specialist resources bases

Information for parents applying for a place in a special school or specialist resource base

Woman helping child write

If you wish your child to be considered for a place at a local maintained special school or specialist resource base this should normally be discussed at the Annual Review of their Statement of Special Educational Needs. A visit to the school could be arranged directly with the school.  All pupils who attend a special school or resource base are legally required to have a Statement of SEN or be undergoing a statutory assessment. From September 2014 Statements of SEN have been been replaced by Education, Health and Care Plans (it will take several years to transfer all statements).

You cannot apply for a special school online.

If you have any questions about special school placements please discuss them with:

  • the SENCO in your childs current placement
  • the Early Years SEN Team for your area:
    • Central - 01865 812628
    • North - 01865 816663
    • South - 01865 323556
