This guide contains 13 walks, all located within a few miles of this famous historic town. To view the location of the walks have a look at our interactive countryside access map. All the walks use Oxfordshire's public rights of way network and can be reached easily by public transport services.

The countryside surrounding Henley on Thames offers a wonderful choice for local walks, from gentle strolls along the River Thames to slightly more demanding walks in the rolling Chiltern Hills.

The walks either start from Henley's tourist information centre in the town centre, or from points along regular public transport routes.

There is a wide range of different walks detailed inside - the choice is yours!

  • short or long distance walks - 3.5 km (2 miles) to 12 km (7.5 miles)
  • circular walks, several of which can be joined together to make for longer more challenging routes
  • linear routes, using the Thames Path National Trail and the popular Oxfordshire Way. These allow you to walk out then return by public transport at several different points along both routes
  • walks either taking you through the Chiltern Hills, famous for their woodlands or on the open river plain of England's best known river - the Thames.
