Help and advice for shared lives carers

Useful numbers and websites for Shared Lives carers

You can get help from a range of sources

  • Your Shared Lives Carers Handbook (pdf format, 5Mb) is a good place to start. It contains all the policies and procedures that we use and refer regularly in the course of Shared Lives work
  • Contact the Shared Lives office (01865 897971) and speak to your link Shared Lives social worker, or if they are not there, speak to the duty person who will be able to advise you.
  • If you need advice out of office hours in an emergency, you can call the Out of Hours service (we sometimes refer to it as EDT- Emergency duty Team) on 0345 050 7666.
  • Oxfordshire Shared Lives Carers have been registered by the Scheme as a member of Shared Lives Plus network. They have  dedicated advisors for Shared Lives Carers and also lots of guidance and helpline numbers on their website www.sharedlivesplus.org‚Äč

Fire safety in the home 

For some help and advice check out the 365alive website. 

'Safe and Well visits'. This is free service offered by the Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue service with tips and advice on how to make yourself and your home safer. The fire service is offering 'Safe and Well' visits to all Carers.
The safe and well check involves a full home fire risk check. The fire service install free smoke alarms if needed and also do other related home safety checks. If you have a person placed with you and would like someone to come out to your home, just email your requests through to fire.safeandwell@oxfordshire.gov.uk. Or visit the website to submit a request.

Internet safety

Carers may worry about the people in their care using the internet, there are many really useful websites where you can find find e-safety tips, advice and resources to help people stay safe on the internet. For example:
