firefighters training

Chipping Norton and Henley Fire Stations are throwing open their doors in April to anyone who would like to find out what it’s like to be an on-call firefighter.

Interested in joining our team of on-call firefighters and live or work within five minutes of a fire station? Then book onto one of our taster sessions at our ‘have a go days and find out if it would be for you.

You will get the opportunity to

  • have a chat with experienced on-call firefighters
  • have the chance to try out practical assessments such as ladder climbing, hose running and putting on breathing apparatus
  • find out more about the recruitment process.

Group manager Paul Bremble said: “Our on-call firefighters are the backbone of Oxfordshire’s Fire and Rescue Service and the taster sessions are a great way for anyone who is considering applying to find out more about the role.

"Firefighting is a career that is open to people from all backgrounds and we are keen for women and people from ethnic minority communities to consider how it might suit them. These sessions are designed to help people decide as you get to experience some of the drills and tasks firefighters get involved with and ask any questions you have about the role.”
