Each year approximately 40,000 roadworks are carried out on our roads, mostly by us and utilities (such as gas, water and electricity companies). These are coordinated by quarterly meetings to minimise disruption.
Under the Streetworks Act, we maintain an electronic register of all roadworks. This helps us to coordinate the work on a daily basis. We also monitor roadworks to ensure adequate and safe traffic management. We inspect 30 per cent of all utilities' sites to enforce the proper reinstatement of the highway.
It is always our intention to carry out our roadworks as quickly as possible and to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum.
