The Emergency Carers' Support Service is a 24-hour emergency support service for adult carers of adults in Oxfordshire.
How can this service support me as a carer?
The service can offer:
professional and confidential emergency support over the telephone to all carers
information about services and resources to all carers
support for you when you have an urgent appointment for yourself or an emergency situation. You will need to be registered to apply for this.
What sort of emergency can you help in?
Situations include:
where a family member has been injured and the carer needs to go to hospital with them
where a carer becomes ill and is unable to provide care.
Before replacement care is provided, we need to be satisfied that:
the carer is unable to carry out his or her normal caring role because of a family crisis or his or her own urgent health needs
there is an immediate impact or serious risk for the person being cared for should they not receive care
no other nominated contacts are available to carry out the caring.
How long does the support last for?
A replacement carer will be provided for a maximum of 48 hours in an emergency.
Who carries out the service?
A4e, based in Kidlington, provides the unique support service on behalf of Oxfordshire County Council and supported by Oxfordshire NHS Primary Care Trust.
Its experienced team understands the physical, emotional and practical needs of carers in an emergency situation and will identify the correct level of support needed.
