Future plans

Future plans include the creation of a new flagship recycling centre, and improvements to other facilities. We are committed to improving the waste recycling infrastructure and diverting as much waste from landfill as possible.

New flagship recycling centre

The flagship centre will make our recycling services more accessible for residents who currently have to travel some distance to a recycling centre, and further reduce fly tipping in Oxfordshire, which is a considerable cost to the council. Based at an easily accessible site off Langford Lane in Kidlington, it will also provide a unique recycling experience that will encourage the culture of reduction, re-use and recycling. Its features will include:

  • 21st Century recycling facilities for multiple waste streams, with household customer areas partly covered from the elements.
  • a dedicated information centre to promote recycling and reuse, with the ability to accommodate school visits.
  • a re-use store for redirection of furniture, appliances and other unwanted items.
  • a small commercial waste facility

An outline planning application for Kidlington will be submitted following the extensive work to identify the best site. Subject to planning approval, the facility could be open to the public next year.

Redevelopment of Redbridge

The addition of Kidlington would bring the number of recycling centres in the county to nine, and enable the redevelopment and improvement of Redbridge to alleviate pressure on the Redbridge Waste Recycling Centre.

Replacement centre for Dean Pit

Planning permission for Dean Pit Waste Recycling Centre expires at the end of September 2011. Work is currently being undertaken to look at the most effective way in which to continue to provide a Waste Recycling Centre for the area.

More information

Wall height at Dix Pit, Drayton and Oakley Wood

The walls are the minimum height required under national Health & Safety regulations. If you cannot reach over the walls to deposit your waste, please ask a member of site staff to help you.

Vehicles on site

Please note that only vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes laden can be allowed at the recycling centres. We also cannot accept trailers
longer than 3m in length, trailers towed by a van or vans with tail lifts.. Householders are reminded to secure all waste during transportation to Waste Recycling Centres, to prevent waste escaping from open vehicles such as trailers or pick ups.

Please note that due to highway restrictions vehicles are not permitted to turn right into or out of Redbridge waste recycling centre.

Recycling rates

As you can see from the table below, there has been an increase in recycling rates. However, these can still be improved on, so please keep recycling to help keep us on track to meet our target of 57% this year!
