Help for carers



Caring for someone can be very isolating. We offer advice and respite care.

Help at home

Care in the home is offered to people who are frail, may have severe learning disabilities, have mental health needs or a physical disability.

Help in an emergency

The Emergency Carers' Support Service is a 24-hour emergency support service for adult carers of adults in Oxfordshire.

Respite or carers' breaks

Respite care, home support and breaks are services we may be able to offer you. You can find out the different schemes here.

Transport and parking

Information about the Blue Badge concessionary on-street parking scheme and special transport for people who cannot use public transport.

Carer's assessment

Carers aged 16 or over can request a carer's assessment to find out what services are available to them. Find out how to apply and the services we may be able to offer.

Parent carers of disabled children

By making an assessment of your situation it should be possible to see what help and support you and your family might need, and who could best give that help.

Carers' centres

The three carers' centres in Oxfordshire provide free confidential advice, support and information. These services are available to any carer.

Advocacy

It is not always easy to state your needs or make your views heard. Advocacy is a way of protecting and asserting our rights.

Benefits

As a carer, you may be entitled to a number of benefits. The person you care for may also be entitled. Although Oxfordshire County Council does not give benefits we can give you information about them.

Carers in employment

Combining work and caring can be difficult. Carers may have to take time off work to look after the person in need.

Support groups

There are many local groups which can help you seek practical and friendly support
