Student support
The Student Support section processes applications for funding from Oxfordshire residents attending university courses.
Central government funding for sixth form students includes the national Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), Care to Learn and the Further Education Residential Support Scheme. Locally, Oxfordshire County Council only administer the schools access fund, which helps sixth form students who attend schools in Oxfordshire.
Assistance with childcare costs, learner support funds (Education maintenance allowance) and assistance with transport costs are available from the government.
About funding for students in higher education.
Please note that from 2009-2010 we are only dealing with applications for loans and grants from renewing university students, who are continuing on a course they started in 2008 or before.
All new higher education students will be assessed by the new centralised service known as Student Finance England, and Local Authorities like ourselves will not have any involvement. There is an online service for new students within the government's Direct Gov - Student Finance England website, where you can apply online. You can also telephone them on their helpline: 0845 300 5090.
Connexions is the government's support service for all young people aged 13 to 19 in England.
