Future First
Our programme to help Oxfordshire County Council reduce its 'environmental footprint'.
Oxfordshire County Council is a huge organisation, employing over 19,000 staff and running nearly 300 schools. In our daily work we use vast amounts of natural resources such as paper, water and fuel used to power our lights, computers, heating and vehicles. Our use of these resources and the waste materials and gases produced all has a detrimental impact on our living environment. This is known as our environmental footprint.
Future First is all about helping us, wherever we work in the council or its schools, to reduce our environmental footprint. This project, established in April 2005, aims to make it easier for each of us to reduce our own footprints whilst making changes to at a wider level to corporate activities, buildings and schools.
At the centre of Future First is the Action Plan. This outlines all the activities and projects that we will be working on over the next year to reduce our environmental footprint. The Action Plan is designed by and delivered through the Future First Programme Board with support from the Future First Project Team.

The Future First Programme Board
The Programme Board is chaired by the director of our Social and Community Services directorate, John Jackson, and is made up of high-level representatives from all directorates and key services to provide a cross-council approach.
The Future First Project Team
The project team is responsible for the management and monitoring of the Future First project on a daily basis and works closely with all directorates and services to help put the Future First Action Plan into practice:
