Creating better services

There are many organisations providing services for children, young people and their families. Change for Children and young people aims to create better services by ensuring that these organisations work together effectively to:

  • improve health outcomes for children and young people
  • increase the number of children and young people accessing sport, play, leisure, youth, out of school, community, cultural and arts activities
  • improve educational achievement and enjoyment at all key stages
  • improve support to schools and communities, promoting positive behaviour and emotional health and well being, thereby reducing the incidence of behaviour difficulties, bullying and youth offending
  • improve the early practical support for vulnerable families to prevent abuse, neglect and family breakdown
  • improve life choices of children looked after
  • improve services for disabled children and young people and their families

Five outcomes for children and young people

The Government wants the Change for Children programme to help children and young people to:

  1. be healthy
  2. stay safe
  3. enjoy and achieve
  4. make a positive contribution
  5. achieve economic well being

Change for Children affects anyone providing services for children, young people and families, whether they are the statutory, private or voluntary sector.
