Forms and guidelines

We levy a standard charge, based upon the average cost of processing a routine Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO). Price is available on request. This covers:

  • an initial site visit (if needed)
  • approval of an application
  • drawing up a schedule
  • consultee letters notifying interested parties
  • preparing and supplying plans showing the affected area and appropriate alternative routes
  • preparation, putting up and removal of street notices
  • inspection and approval of a temporary diversion signing schedule
  • legal work for preparation and making of the Order

Additional charges

These will be levied for:

  • all advertising costs
  • weekly maintenance of statutory street notices (for footpaths or bridleways)
  • extra work needed if you submit an inadequate or unacceptable signing schedule
  • design or work on the signing schedule we carry out at your request
  • staff time if exceptional work is required.

Public relations

It is your responsibility to make sure that all those along the length of the road affected by the Order or Closure are told the nature and duration of the works well in advance.

Signs

It is your responsibility to make sure that any alternative route is adequately signed and approved in advance by the Area Engineer. Here is a document showing the signs used:

Temporary signs should comply with Department for Transport Regulations. Take a look at this list of signage contractors.

Public liability insurance

The services, company contractor, authority or other person or body requesting the closure should note they will need to show they hold insurance of at least £10,000,000.
