Young musicians compete this weekend

Five of the county’s finest young musicians will compete for a place in the final of the Oxfordshire Concerto Competition this Saturday at the county council’s Centre for Music in Headington.

Each will perform a concerto movement with the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra and conductor John Traill in the hope of reaching the final.

The programme will be:

Korngold Violin Concerto, Movement III

Bruch Violin Concerto No.1 in G min, Movements I and III (two violinists will play a movement each)

Strauss Horn Concerto No.1, Movement I 

Nielsen Flute Concerto, Movement  I

Three of the competitors will go through to the final which will take place in the Sheldonian Theatre and will play the whole of the concerto with the Oxford Philomusica on Saturday 20 April at 7.30pm.

The Centre for Music is located at Bayards Hill School, Waynflete Road, Headington, Oxford, OX3 8GA.

Refreshments on sale during the evening and there will be a collection after the performance rather than an admission fee.
