Big sing for good cause

Pupils from across Oxfordshire will be singing their hearts out as part of a Christmas fundraiser for Christian Aid.

The Big Christmas Sing will run for two consecutive nights from 6.30pm on Tuesday 4 December and Wednesday 5 December at Oxford Town Hall.

Over 400 children from 17 local primary schools will perform their favourite Christmas songs, before joining together on the stage for a massed choir finale singing Tree of Light and Good Time Christmas.

The event will be watched by parents, family and friends and the money raised will go to Christian Aid’s work overseas. There are limited spaces remaining for members of the public. Contact Oxfordshire County Music Service on 01865 740000 for tickets (adults £4.00; child/concession £2.00).

The music on the evening will be co-ordinated by Liz Stock of Oxfordshire County Music Service and Jessica Hall from Christian Aid will compere.

County Councillor Melinda Tilley, Cabinet member for Education, said: “This is the fifth year that we have worked in partnership with Christian Aid to promote this event.

“The Oxford Town Hall is a lovely venue for it. Places were in great demand and sadly we were unable to accommodate all the schools who wanted to attend."

Sarah Clay, Christian Aid Regional Coordinator in Oxford said: “The Big Christmas Sing is a great occasion for all the family, and we’re very excited to be running it over two nights again this year.

“With all the hard work the children have put in we are sure it will be a fantastic festive concert, and it will also raise money for a very worthy cause. Since the first Big Christmas Sing the event has raised over £5,000 for Christian Aid.”

The evening will include Christmas carols for everyone to sing together, as well as an opportunity for people to donate to Christian Aid’s work around the world.

The following schools will be taking part: Bayards Hill Primary School, St Edmunds Primary School, West Kidlington primary School, St Francis Primary School, St Andrews Primary School, Headington; Sandhill Primary School, All Saints Primary School, Buckland Primary School, Shellingford Primary School, Watlington Primary School, Beckley Primary School, Windmill Primary School, Manor School, Didcot; Orchard Meadow Primary School, St Michaels Primary School, William Fletcher Primary School and South Moreton Primary School.
