Open day at Didcot Fire Station

Published 26 June 2012

There will be something for all the family to enjoy and to learn about at Didcot Fire Station’s open day on Saturday, 30 June, from 11am to 4pm.

Star attraction at the station in The Broadway, Didcot, will be the brand new rescue fire engine - the first of Oxfordshire County Council’s appliances to carry a potentially life-saving defibrillator. This can kick-start a casualty’s heart, if fire crews arrive on the scene before the paramedics. The engine also has the latest specialist heavy lifting equipment and thermal imaging cameras.

Visitors will also be able to see a demonstration of ladder rescue drills and a road traffic collision rescue. There will be the chance to handle fire service equipment and have a go in the training house and ‘rat run' - used by fire crews when training.

The station’s Blue Watch will be on hand, along with other station personnel. There will be face-painting and a bouncy castle for the children, plus stalls selling  jewellery, books, cakes and candy floss. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available.

Watch Manager Jon Walker said: “We promise a fun, informative day out for everyone who comes along to our open day at Didcot Fire Station this year.”

Admission is free, with parking in the surrounding streets or town centre car parks. A percentage of the profits from all the sellers will go to support the Fire Fighters’ Charity.
