Driver trapped in overturned car

Published 11 June 2012

Oxfordshire County Council's Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a person trapped in an overturned car near Banbury on Saturday 9 June just before 6am.

Two fire engines from Banbury and a specialist rescue vehicle from Kidlington were sent to the incident on the A423 Southam Road approximately three miles north of Banbury.

On arrival fire crews discovered a single vehicle on its side with the driver still trapped inside, the passenger had managed to release himself and was in the care of the Ambulance Service.

After stabilising the vehicle, fire crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to release the door and were then able to assist the remaining occupant to safety.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to hospital by ambulance and fortunately appear to have suffered only minor injuries.

Both Thames Valley and Warwickshire Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
