Cycle path unveiled in Kidlington

Published 22 June 2012

The completion of a new cycle path is giving pedal power a boost in Kidlington thanks to a partnership project between the Parish Council and Oxfordshire County Council.

The cycleway, which runs between Oxford Road and Crown Road via Exeter Hall, links residential areas to the village centre. The second phase of the project was finished earlier this year and is proving popular with cyclists.

The route has been landscaped with trees, benches and new bins. It also features barriers at both ends, where the path joins car park areas.

The initial phase of the £24,000 project was funded by the South East England Rural Development Agency (SEEDA) and Kidlington Parish Council, which owns the land the route is built on. Oxfordshire County Council helped fund the second phase.

Part of parish council's master plan

David Betts, Chairman of Kidlington Parish Council, said the project was part of the parish council’s master plan to develop Exeter Close. He added:  “We are pleased to work with the County Council to provide this latest extension.”

Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport Rodney Rose said: “This has been a really successful project with both councils working together to get the best possible result for cyclists in Kidlington. I know the path is already proving popular and anything that encourages people to make journeys by bicycle is obviously good for exercise as well as the environment.”

The cycle path links up to the National Cycle Route 51.
