Oxfordshire now on national ‘Heritage Gateway’

Published 13 February 2012

Oxfordshire’s Historic Environment Record is now live on Heritage Gateway, a national database integrating both national and local records of England’s historic and archaeological sites and listed buildings.

Heritage Gateway

What is the Heritage Gateway?

The Heritage Gateway is managed by English Heritage in partnership with Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers (ALGAO) and Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC).

The website provides access to local and national records on the historic environment including listed buildings, scheduled monuments, historic photographs, and information on historic parks, gardens and landscapes. Users can now cross search all of these resources in one place, rather than having to go to multiple websites and agencies to get the information they need.

Great benefits for Oxfordshire

The local Oxfordshire data includes all information held on Oxfordshire’s Historic Environment Record on Cherwell, South Oxfordshire, West Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse Districts; the Oxford City data is held separately on Heritage Gateway.

One of the main benefits is that this integrated dataset provides a more comprehensive information base for Oxfordshire’s historic assets. This means that information useful for research or understanding of historic environment data is easily accessible via the internet.

The History pages contain a wide range of materials and ifnormation relating to Oxfordshire's past; including Heritage Search - an online catalogue of cultural and historical resources.
