Leisure and Learning Grant for carers

The Leisure and Learning Grant is aimed at supporting unpaid carers. It is a one-off direct payment up to £350 depending on a carer’s individual needs.

The grant is a one-off payment and may be used to pay for one or a series of activities or for an item of equipment (not provided by Social and Community Services or the NHS).

Examples of what you could claim for include:

  • childcare or extra help at home
  • driving lessons
  • counselling sessions
  • massage, well-being services
  • gym membership
  • IT equipment
  • training, recreational classes
  • help with transport costs
  • a short break.

The Carers Oxfordshire website has details on how to apply and the guidelines for eligibility.

Young Carers Support Fund

In partnership with NHS Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire County Council has made a fund available to support the health and wellbeing of young carers in the county.

The purpose of this fund is to improve the health and outcomes for young carers, and to relieve the impact of caring.

Any professional who is working with a young carer may apply on their behalf. The Young Carers Team will be happy to help you through the application process and direct to you any other support that may be useful.

How much can a young carer apply for?

Each young carer is entitled to £200 per annum and the grant can be used to pay for a range of activities or equipment; from buying a new bike to swimming lessons or even a new karate uniform.

To find out more or get an application form, contact Young Carers Development Worker Alix Michaelis on alix.michaelis@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
