Abingdon Our Supported Living Service is looking for volunteers in the Abingdon area to support people who have a learning disability to access leisure activities during the day, at evenings and weekends. We offer a full training and induction package, ongoing support and expenses. Eloise Coyle as above
Witney The Witney Daytime Support Service is looking for a volunteer to support a person who has a learning disability whilst they attend work one morning a week. The ideal candidate would be a driver with some relevant experience. We offer full training, the use of a vehicle whilst volunteering, expenses and a friendly team environment. Eloise Coyle as above.
Headington The Daytime Support Service based in Headington is looking for a volunteer to support service users with leisure and craft activities, for one or more sessions per week. We are looking for someone able to commit to working regularly with us, and in return we offer a small friendly team atmosphere, as well as full training and ongoing support. Eloise Coyle as above
Wantage The Tea Garden is a café in Wantage run by people who have a learning disability, attached to our Charlton Daytime Support Service. We are looking for volunteers to support the running of the café. We offer full training, induction, and a friendly working environment. Eloise Coyle as above.
Wallingford The Wallingford Daytime Support Service is looking for a volunteer to support people attending an intensive interaction group, known as SPICE. The group currently runs on Wednesday mornings, and from autumn 2011, on a Friday morning as well. (You could volunteer to support one or both sessions) You would have a chance to work closely with people who have complex communication needs. We offer a very friendly atmosphere, full training, and on-going support. One role is filled, one volunteer still needed. Eloise Coyle as above.

Why we need volunteers

We need volunteers to help:

  • support activities within our daytime support services
  • support people with leisure activities at evenings and weekends
  • give one-to-one support with activities such as swimming, art, work.

We want people who can make a practical difference and who enjoy the satisfaction of ensuring people who use our services are well supported.

Who can apply to be a volunteer

Anyone over the age of 18, who is:

  • patient and objective
  • committed and reliable
  • a good listener and communicator
  • able to relate to people with a broad range of needs.

There are no formal qualifications required to become a volunteer but there are health and safety and security issues that have to be addressed. An application form will need to be filled in and references required. We will also need to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau Check.

  • comprehensive induction training, linked to the National Diploma Awards
  • ongoing support and training where necessary.
