Charges

Household waste

The waste recycling centres accept a wide range of household recyclables and waste for landfill for no charge, except tyres and DIY waste:

Please bring cash with you as cheques or cards are not accepted.

Trade and business waste

Businesses have a legal duty to dispose of their waste properly. See our page on commercial waste disposal for more information.

Wall and railing heights at Dix Pit, Drayton and Oakley Wood

The walls are the minimum height required under national Health & Safety regulations. If you cannot reach over the walls or railings to deposit your waste, please ask a member of site staff to help you.

Vehicles on site

Commercial type vehicles and trailers between 1.8 and 3 metres (or 6 and 10 feet) require a permit to use the waste recycling centres.

Please note that only vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes laden can be allowed at the recycling centres. Box or Luton type vans larger than a long wheel based Transit van are not allowed access to any site. We also cannot accept trailers longer than 3m in length or trailers towed by commercial type vehicles. Vans or trailers with tail lifts or ramps are not allowed to use these on site for health and safety reasons.

Please note that due to highway restrictions vehicles are not permitted to turn right into or out of Redbridge waste recycling centre.

Pedestrian access

We have a duty to make sure that our recycling centres are run in a safe manner and to protect the welfare of all customers. For pedestrians' own safety we cannot permit them to walk into sites as there is no designated footpath or safe walkway, so they would be crossing the path of traffic whilst carrying waste.

We acknowledge that once on site customers leave their vehicles and walk around the site to access containers. However, they would not be crossing the flow of traffic as they would be if they were to walk in to the sites. Bicycles can use the sites as they are part of the flow of traffic and road users.

We can appreciate there are some items which cannot be accepted in your kerbside collection service, or if you live locally and can walk to a site you feel you are not contributing to vehicle emissions, but unfortunately the safety of site users is our priority.

Some districts provide comprehensive bring sites located in supermarket car parks or community areas: these often collect similar items to Household Waste Recycling Centres and are often more easily accessible on foot. Please visit the Recycle Now website for locations of bring banks, or see our recycling A-Z for more information on recycling items not currently collectable in kerbside services.

Recycling inert and rubble waste

We want to increase the amount of inert and rubble wastes we recycle from the Waste Recycling Centres in Oxfordshire. It is taken to our re-processors, who screen and break down the material, and the end product is sent into the construction industry and used as filler for ground works.

Unfortunately due to contamination material has been rejected from our re-processors and sent to landfill.

Please make sure our containers remain free of contamination by only placing in bricks, rubble, hardcore, soil, sheet glass, ceramics and tiles. Plasterboard, plastic bags, buckets or turf should not be placed in the container.

Ceramic toilets and sinks can be placed in the rubble container but must have all plastic and metal parts removed.
