Scaffolding and hoarding licences

How to apply for a licence to erect scaffolding or hoarding on the highway.

You need to apply to us for permission when you need to erect scaffolding, staging, hoarding or fencing to secure a building site. The licence below also includes the use access machinery, such as cranes and cherry pickers on the highway in relation to building work.

Scaffold company registration

First, you need to register with the Licensing and Streetworks Administration Team.

Fees

  • Scaffolding 1 to 8 metres = £90 fee for one month, £70 renewal per month
  • Scaffolding over 8 metres £100 fee for one month, £85 renewal per month
  • Hoarding 1 to 8 metres = £90 per month, renewal £70 per month
  • Hoarding 8.1 metres and over = £100 per month, renewal £85 per month
  • Tower scaffold = £60 for 2 days, renewal £60 for 2 days
  • Cherry picker = £60 for 2 days, renewal £60 for 2 days
  • Scissor lift = £60 for 2 days, renewal £60 for 2 days
  • Storage on the highway = £40 for one month, £20 renewal per month

Timescales

We aim to process your application within five working days and will then inform you of our decision.

Does tacit consent apply?

No. It is in the public interest that we must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us. You can do this online if you applied through the UK Welcomes service or use the contact details below.

If you want to make changes to an existing licence, we treat this as a new licence.

If you prefer, you can download the application form and send it to us.

Cheques should be made payable to Oxfordshire County Council.
