We need to carry out essential repairs to Iffley Road between The Plain Roundabout and Donnington Bridge Road. This work is being carried out in two phases.
The first phase, from The Plain to Henley Street, was completed on 23 November 2011. The second phase - between Henley Street and Donnington Bridge Road - began on 9 January, and we expect it to be completed by the end of June 2012.
What we are doing
Phase two of the scheme will consist of carriageway re-construction, drainage work, kerbing work, refurbishment of some areas of footway, and the installation of a zebra crossing near Percy Street. We will also be improving the junctions of the side roads to make it easier for pedestrians to cross them, and extending the northbound cycle lane to Donnington Bridge Road.
How you may be affected
We know these works will cause disruption to local residents and businesses, and severe delays to road users. However, once they are complete no major road reconstruction works will be required on this stretch of Iffley Road for many years.
A programme indicating when we expect to be working on each section is detailed below, and plans of each section showing closures / diversions routes are available to download. We are updating this page during the life of the project to keep you informed of any changes to the programme.
We expect only to be working between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday. No work is currently planned during weekends (though the contract does allow for this possibility) or public holidays.
Temporary road closures
We have moved to Sections 5 and 6 of our works between Percy Street and Howard Street. The move will allow the reopening for access into Magdalen Street, Percy Street and Daubeny Road from Iffley Road. For safety reasons, the new zebra crossing near Percy Street will not be open for use because it is too close to the works.
The work will result in the closures of Charles Street, Fairacres Road and Howard Street junctions with Iffley Road. Section 5 of the works is scheduled for completion on 8 May 2012 and that will be closely followed by the Section 6 works on the west side of Iffley Road which is scheduled to finish around 28 May 2012.
Parking and bus stops
We will need to suspend parking and move bus stops temporarily during the scheme. To assist us in this a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order has been made. The temporary bus stop locations are detailed at individual bus stops.

Anticipated programme
Update to planned work
Since the start of the work on Iffley Road last May, the roadworks have caused less disruption to traffic than anticipated. Because of this we have increased the size of the areas being worked on to try to reduce the amount of time spent on the work.
