No cold caller zones

How to take action on unwanted cold callers.

The first 'No cold Caller Zones' were introduced by Trading Standards in 2006. There are 14 zones across Oxfordshire to date.

It is now a criminal offence for cold callers to return to someone’s house, if they have been asked to leave.

The big six energy companies have said they are now committed to respecting the wishes of people who live in recognised no cold caller zones or display signs saying 'no cold callers'.

Scheme aims

The aim of setting up zones is to reduce the amount of unwanted cold callers. Street signs are placed at entrance points to the zones and residents are given door stickers to advise potential cold callers that they are not welcome and should not enter.

It is hoped that these zones will make it more difficult for distraction burglars and rogue traders to operate in the area.
