Become a broadband champion

Broadband champions are people who have an important role in representing their local areas' need for better broadband. We are keen to build on our growing network of broadband champions - email bbchampions@oxfordshire.gov.uk if you are interested.

Once signed up you will receive regular updates and have the opportunity to communicate with other broadband champions.

What does being broadband champion involve?

Whether you have five minutes or five hours to spare, there is something you can do. Broadband champions don’t need to be technically savvy, but having a bit of time, energy and a strong desire to improve the economic and social wellbeing of their community is important. You do need to believe that Internet access is as indispensable to modern life as access to electricity and running water.

The broadband champions' main responsibility is to raise awareness of the benefits of faster and more reliable broadband and to increase demand.

Broadband champions help to:

  • gather feedback to ensure community views and needs are understood and considered
  • promote the benefits of faster and more reliable broadband
  • co-ordinate or attend local events to help people understand the difference that broadband could make to their lives
  • create effective links with all sections of the community e.g. business, voluntary and community sector, and other local groups
  • stimulate demand and help build a database of prospective broadband subscribers so we can demonstrate to providers that communities are interested in getting faster and more reliable broadband
  • oversee their parish website, newsletters and notice-boards
  • communicate information about our better broadband programme and its progress.

If you have any questions, email bbchampions@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
