Find independent reports and quality ratings on all your local care homes and services.

Find independent reports and quality ratings on all your local care homes, home care and other registered services, plus address and contact details, to help you make the right choice.

Who has compiled the directory?

The Care Quality Commission is now rating all registered providers of residential, nursing and home (domiciliary) care.

Find independent reports and quality ratings on all your local care homes, home care and other registered services, plus address and contact details, to help you make the right choice. We think this is useful information for people who are deciding on what care to purchase for themselves or a relative.

How does it work?

When you search for a care home or care service you will find:

  • details of the service it offers and for how many people
  • the commission's report about the care home or care service
  • a quality rating for the service, making it easier to compare it with others.

The reports say what the service does well and list any improvements they need to make. They can help you make an informed choice about which service is the right one for you.

The services available in the directory are:

  • care homes
  • home care (domiciliary) agencies
  • nurses agencies
  • adult placement schemes.

How are care homes and services rated?

Providers are rated using a star rating system. This is based on a four-point scale where:

  • 0 stars: poor
  • 1 star: adequate
  • 2 stars: good
  • 3 stars: excellent.

Can Oxfordshire County Council recommend services on the list?

This list may be shared with members of the public on the understanding that Oxfordshire County Council does not guarantee that the list is complete or up to date or accept responsibility for any errors or omissions. The provision of the list is not to be taken as a recommendation by Oxfordshire County Council of any of the providers listed.

What position does the council take when finding places for people?

The council:

  • will not make placements where a provider has been rated as 'poor'
  • will work with and support those providers who have received 'adequate' or 'poor' ratings to improve the level of care services in Oxfordshire
  • whenever possible it will seek to make arrangements with providers who have an 'excellent' or 'good' rating
  • may make placements with providers who have an 'adequate' rating, but will 'place with caution' unless it has assured itself that suitable actions have been taken since the inspection, and it now believes the provider to be 'good' or 'excellent'.
