Consultation on proposed new Controlled Parking Zones

Our consultation on proposed new controlled parking zones (CPZs) in east Oxford.

Controlled parking zone in Oxford

From 26 January until 24 February, we consulted on proposals to introduce three new controlled parking zones (CPZs) in the Divinity Road and Magdalen Road areas of East Oxford. These would be called Divinity Road, Magdalen Road (North) and Magdalen Road (South).

The CPZs would restrict most of the parking spaces to permit holders only for much of the time.  Permits will be available for residents and some businesses as well as their visitors.

More information about CPZs and their current locations

Why the CPZs are being proposed

We believe that CPZs are the best way of tackling congestion on the local road network caused by commuters as well as the parking-related problems that residents in the area have experienced for many years.

We previously advertised CPZs for these areas (although Magdalen Road South and North were advertised together as one single zone) but they did not go ahead. The current proposals are otherwise the same apart from a few minor modifications.

The results of the consultation

The results of the consultation on proposals for the three new CPZs in this area were reported to the County Council Cabinet Member for Transport's Decisions meeting on 22 March 2012.

The Cabinet Member for Transport decided to approve the plans for the Divinity Road area and Magdalen Road (North) area CPZs. However he decided to defer a decision on the CPZ in the Magdalen Road (South) area until after the other two schemes are introduced, to see what impact they have on parking in the area.
