Morning and evening opportunities for players of Grade 5 and above.

Saturday morning orchestral and wind band opportunities for players of Grade 5 and above and Wednesday evening ensemble opportunities.

When and where

Saturdays in term time, 9.15am-12.45pm, plus selected weekends and evenings.

Central Music School caters for orchestral musicians who are Grade 5 plus standard. Two orchestras run during the morning, both are large symphony orchestras which rehearse and play a wide repertoire.

Applications for all Central Music School groups should be made by the half term prior to the term you with to start. Entry is by audition only. Places are subject to availability within the section. Most students are aged 11 or older, with the majority in the 13-18 age range.

Fees  

  • £57.48 per term for those having lessons with the Music Service
  • £72.78 per term for those not having lessons with the Music Service

Oxfordshire Schools' Symphony Orchestra at the Central Music School (OSSO@CMS)

Conductor: Caroline Hobbs-Smith

When you start the Central Music School, you will join the Symphony Orchestra. You may wish to also join OSSO Touring at an extra cost. Some of the repertoire is shared between these two orchestras.

Recent works performed by the orchestra include the Hungarian March by Berlioz, pieces from Delibes’ Coppelia, Anderson’s A Christmas Festival and themes from James Bond.

Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra at the Central Music School (OCYO@CMS)

Conductor: Dr John Traill

Students who have been at the Central Music School for a while will 'graduate' to the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra. You may wish to also join the OCYO Touring at an extra cost. Some of the repertoire is shared between these two orchestras.

Recent works performed by the orchestra include Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Anderson’s Sleigh Ride and A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Britten.

Oxfordshire Youth Wind Band (OYWB)

Conductor:  Mike Skitt

OYWB currently meets on Saturdays but this may be extended to match the programmes for the other touring orchestras (OCYO and OSSO) and potentially include an Easter residential and summer tour subject to interest and demand.

Applications are open to students aged 12 to 18 who are grade 5 standard and above.
