Saturday morning orchestral and wind band opportunities for players of Grade 5 and above.

Saturdays in term time, 9.15am-12.45pm, plus occasional events outside these times.

Central Music School caters for orchestral and wind band musicians who are Grade 5 plus standard. Two orchestras and a wind band run during the morning, which rehearse and play a wide repertoire.

Applications for all Central Music School groups should be made contacting the Music Service. Entry is by audition only. Most auditions are held during June, but applications will be accepted at any time.

Places are subject to availability within the section. Most students are aged 11 or older, with the majority in the 13-18 age range.

Fees  

• £66.00 per term for those having lessons with the Music Service
• £81.00 per term for those not having lessons with the Music Service

Oxfordshire Schools' Symphony Orchestra at the Central Music School (OSSO at CMS)

Conductor: Caroline Hobbs-Smith

When you start the Central Music School, you will join the Symphony Orchestra or the Wind Band. You may wish to also join OSSO Touring at an extra cost. Some of the repertoire is shared between these two orchestras. OSSO has about 100 players of grade 5-7 standard.

Recent works performed by the orchestra include the Hungarian March by Berlioz, pieces from Delibes’ Coppelia, Anderson’s A Christmas Festival and themes from James Bond.

Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra at the Central Music School (OCYO at CMS)

Conductor: Dr John Traill

Students who have been at the Central Music School for a while will 'graduate' to the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra. You may wish to also join the OCYO Touring at an extra cost. Some of the repertoire is shared between these two orchestras.

Recent works performed by the orchestra include  Elgar's Cockaigne, Strauss-Salome's Dance and Bax's Tintagel.

Oxfordshire Youth Wind Band (OYWB)

Conductor:  Mike Skitt

When you start CMS as a wind player, you will join the Wind Band or OSSO. You may wish also to join OYWB Touring at an extra cost. Some of the repertoire is shared between these two orchestras.

Applications are open to students aged 12 to 18 who are grade 5 standard and above.
